Every year, our charitable trust gifts thousands of pounds to organisations doing great work across Scotland. Each year our team chooses a focus for these efforts which have included mental wellbeing and hardship support organisations.
Colleagues regularly volunteer too: sharing their skills, time, and knowledge with a range of charities and non-profits. This includes through a paid “charity day” we encourage people to use each year to support an organisation they’re keen to help.
We were one of the first firms in Scotland to establish a charitable trust.
Often match funding colleagues’ efforts, over the last ten years, the trust has donated around £150,000 to a range of organisations including animal and children’s charities as well as mental health support and healthcare research organisations.
For example, in 2021, to mark 30 years of Ledingham Chalmers we donated £7,000 to recognise colleagues’ efforts in two charity drives.
In July that year we held a 30 peaks challenge where we donated £3,000 to Scottish Mountain Rescue.
Here, we asked 30 colleagues to climb 30 peaks (large or small) on or around 31 July. Thirty-one took part, reaching 37 summits of 25 different hills and mountains.
That November, we asked 30 colleagues across our offices to help us raise £3,000 by taking part in 30 challenges over 30 days. For each sign-up, the Ledingham Chalmers Charitable Trust pledged to donate £30, with a further £30 for successful completion.
Ultimately 56 colleagues took part in around 70 challenges.
As a result, £4,000 was split evenly between Northcote Lodge Care Home, Aberdeen; Strathcarron Hospice, Denny; Southpark Retirement Home, Edinburgh; and Ballifeary House, Inverness. All had links with Ledingham Chalmers.
