Rural solicitors (all levels) and paralegals — Scotland-wide

Described in the latest Legal 500 rankings as "excellent to deal with" and "responding quickly and with strong attention to detail to any specific needs" our pan-Scotland rural team is looking for solicitors and paralegals.

A bit about us. This video marks three decades of Ledingham Chalmers and explores our heritage, culture and what happens next, including our ambitious growth plans.

A central part of our approach is our core values, which guide how we work with each other, and our clients.

And as part of those growth plans, we now have opportunities for solicitors across all roles, as well as paralegals, in our pan-Scotland rural team. You can be based in any of our offices in Aberdeen, Inverness, Stirling and Edinburgh, and we'd welcome applications from those looking for hybrid working too.

The roles and requirements

The ideal candidates will mostly likely have rural property experience, but if you have a commercial or residential background and are looking for a switch, we'd be keen to hear from you.

The main duties of the role will be to deal with all aspects of rural matters including —

  • Providing legal advice on agricultural and rural matters to a loyal client base including farming families, estate owners and rural businesses

  • Working on rural property purchases and sales, as well as security work, and agricultural tenancies

  • Renewable energy and development projects

  • Estate, country house and forestry purchases and sales

The ideal candidates

Of course you'll have the appropriate academic qualifications and post-qualifying experience for the role you're applying for. If you're a paralegal, ideally you'd be accredited by the Law Society of Scotland, but that's not essential.

Plus, working alongside experienced colleagues —

  • You'll have excellent attention to detail, a demonstrable client care track record, and time management skills

  • As a good communicator, you'll be adept at analysing legal issues, working efficiently to deadlines and preparing (or helping prepare) pragmatic and reasoned advice

  • You'll be enthusiastic about the opportunity to play a part in our growth plans through business development initiatives

Why Ledingham Chalmers?

In this role you’ll work with friendly, collaborative colleagues across Scotland.

And now is a great time to join our firm. Our latest figures showed our highest turnover — £12.8million — since becoming a limited liability partnership (LLP) in 2006 and our strategy is to increase revenue to £25million by 2025.

Having the right team in place will, of course, be instrumental to reaching that goal.

There are great opportunities at Ledingham Chalmers for personal development, training, and progression in a supportive environment.

Importantly too, these posts come with an attractive remuneration and holiday package as well as other bonuses, subject to qualifying conditions, and an additional day off on top of holiday entitlement for your birthday.
