In this video, partner Sarah Morris talks about why she chose to join Ledingham Chalmers as a trainee.
A central part of the culture she mentions is our core values, which guide how we work with each other, and our clients.
And we're looking for summer interns with the same mindset who'll bring that extra something to our firm. We'll choose up to six people from that group to come on board as trainees in 2025.
PAID INTERNSHIP
You'll spend three weeks with us, where you'll most likely be in one of our litigation, property, corporate or private client teams.
You'll get an insight into what it's like to work at Ledingham Chalmers, including putting all the knowledge and skills you've learnt at university to great use in a supportive and fast-paced environment.
You'll have contact with our clients, many of which are high profile, fast-growing organisations, and you'll have a mentor to work with who'll show you the ropes.
These three-week, paid internships are based in Aberdeen and begin weeks commencing 3 and 24 July, 2023.
TRAINEE RECRUITMENT PROCESS
This is an important part of our trainee recruitment process. The 2025 Aberdeen trainees will spend six months in at least three different teams, working alongside our experts with plenty of client contact.
APPLICATION CRITERIA
This process is designed so you can show us your strengths, as well as help you find out more about what you can expect working with us.
You'll have an LLB or LLB (Hons) in Scots Law and PEAT1/DipLP before the traineeship start date in 2025.
You'll also be able to show you understand the importance technology, including social media, plays in the modern business environment as well as how crucial a positive experience is for clients throughout their dealings with us.
WHY LEDINGHAM CHALMERS?
We're proud of what we've achieved and have ambitious plans.
And now is a great time to join our firm. Our latest figures showed our highest turnover — £12.8million — since becoming a limited liability partnership (LLP) in 2006 and our strategy is to increase revenue to £25million by 2025.
We're consistently recognised in the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories based on feedback from clients and peers.
There are great opportunities at Ledingham Chalmers for personal development, training, and progression in a supportive environment.
Outside of the office, there will be plenty of opportunities to take part in networking and other social events. Who knows, maybe you'll join our Law Law Land choir or even become a part of our charities group and help make a difference in our community.
WHAT PREVIOUS INTERNS SAY ABOUT US...
We caught up with two former interns to get the lowdown on their experience as well as a few tips on how to prepare for the application process.
Here's what they had to say.
Cameron Rout —
The application process was straightforward, and I was instantly made to feel at ease during what can be such a daunting process
There was a real focus on you as an individual — not just another applicant number
The interview itself was enjoyable and flowed like a conversation. There wasn't any of the usual pressure that comes with interviews where the sole focus is on the applicant
The internship experience was truly immersive, ideal for a law student to understand first-hand the practice of law. Rather than just being left with a list of mundane tasks, qualified solicitors gave me meaningful work, allowing me to apply the skills I had developed at university
Overall, the Internship was a great experience and truly allowed me to excel — all down to the amazing and supportive environment of the firm. I'd encourage any aspiring solicitor to apply!
Madi Nelson —
Everyone in the firm is very welcoming. There was always someone I could ask if I needed help with anything
You'll acquire practical information and insights on working as a lawyer that you wouldn't get from a university course
The internship is an excellent way of getting connected with a job and seeing and experiencing the operations of a full-service law firm
My top tip would be to enjoy the experience and try to get involved in as much as possible. The few weeks will pass very quickly
It's easier said than done, but try and relax in the interview. Don't put too much pressure on yourself for everything to go perfectly (my tip is to wiggle your toes if you are nervous)
Authenticity is key, and the interviewer is looking to get to know you as an individual, so try to be yourself and answer questions honestly instead of saying what you think they want to hear. This will help you stand out and come across as more sincere
