Ace VENTURa — Charlie House Venture 2022

Great news!

The firm's Ace VENTURa team has won the Charlie House Venture 2022 challenge.

The challenge

This eight-week corporate challenge saw teams go head to head with the aim of fundraising as much as possible for Charlie House.

All funds raised from this competition go directly to the charity's Big Build Appeal for a specialist support centre built on the grounds of Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen.

Charlie House is a charity doing hugely important work to improve the quality of life for babies, children and young people in the north east of Scotland with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

The team

The team of six, Gavin Matheson, Hollie Cavanagh, Jessica Sunassee-Mackey, Jonathan Burns, Ross Peddie and I, had our sights set on bringing home the trophy after The LEDS Factor won in 2019.

Starting with a budget of just £100 and the task of developing creative and entrepreneurial ideas to turn into funding for Charlie House, we raised a fantastic total of £4,859.31.

Over eight weeks, we organised various events encouraging colleagues to release their inner bakers for bake sales and challenge themselves to complete 10,000 steps daily.

A highlight was our art gallery evening, held at our Aberdeen Johnstone House offices, and attended by about 30 guests saw proceeds split equally between the artist and Charlie House.

The team's efforts mean we've won places on business mentor Bob Keiller's business storytelling course, an activity day at Lochter Activity Centre, and one month's advertising for the firm on Original 106.

Activities included —

  • Bake Sale — raised £297.09

  • Bingo Lunch — raised £79.75

  • Bottle Bank — raised £168

  • STEPtember — raised £455.45

  • Guess the Sweets — raised £41.22

  • Quiz register — raised £43

  • Art Gallery Evening — raised £1,267.50

The firm's charitable trust also generously topped up our total.

Showcasing our local community

The chosen theme for our fundraising activities was 'Showcasing our Local Community'. We chose this to highlight the significant importance of supporting our local economy in challenging times, and we were blown away by the generosity of the following organisations and artists for their donations —
