Due to high demand, the scheme, which provides loans of up to £25,000 to boost first-time buyers' deposits, closed to new applications in October last year.
And while Help to Buy is no longer available, the FHF is another option for first-time buyers.
That said, given it only applies from 1 April this year until the end of next March, and considering how popular the pilot was, if you're looking to use it to make your first home purchase more affordable it makes sense to move fairly quickly.
With the scheme, buyers need to have around 5% of the value of their new property as a deposit. The Scottish Government's contribution is secured on the home's equity.
The benefit for you as a first-time buyer is that, with a larger deposit, you're more likely to be able to access more mortgage products with better interest rates, meaning lower monthly repayments. And of course, our mortgage experts can help find a deal that suits too.
Meanwhile, for some inspiration, we've pulled together a round-up of properties that are perfect first-time buys. And there are many more to check out on our for sale listing page.
