From Bridge of Don to Belarus — meet valuation consultant Laura Ross

Our valuations team is one of the first points of contact a potential client has with Ledingham Chalmers Estate Agency (LCEA).

The job includes providing free guideline valuations for sellers — the result of extensive research looking at, amongst other things, what properties in a given area have sold for, as well as current market trends. The team also recommends tailored marketing packages to get people’s homes in front of the right buyers.

It made sense then, as we have an offer on now for people selling in Bridge of Don, for us to catch up with Laura — a long-time resident of that part of town — for a quick chat.

Tell us about your background

I’ve been with LCEA for more than five years now.

I have a degree in corporate communication, and worked in HR and recruitment — including in the oil and gas sector — before moving into property.

When my daughter Sasha came along, I had a career break then came back to work with LCEA as a receptionist. This turned into an amazing opportunity and an unexpected new career.

I progressed to sales negotiator, then property developers manager, before moving into my current role working out of the office in Bridge of Don.

Which brings us neatly to a question about the offer that’s running for sellers in Bridge of Don. Can you tell us more?

We’re offering sellers a 15% discount on our estate agency sales service fee for any AB22 or AB23 property marketed with us on or before 5 May, 2023.

Plus, if you’re quick off the mark and list with us by 31 March 2023, we’ll cover the cost of professional photographs to help sell your home: saving you more than £100.

Bridge of Don is a great place to live. There’s always plenty going on, and it’s popular with families and professionals keen to buy a bigger home.

I’ve lived there for years. I went to Glashieburn School and Oldmachar Academy, and my daughter now goes to Glashieburn. It suits us perfectly.

What hobbies played a large part in your life?

My main hobby growing up was dance. I trained in so many types and even travelled to Belarus to take part in a festival where I performed in front of more than 20,000 people.

Closer to home, I’ve choreographed loads of musical theatre shows for the amateur dramatic community in Aberdeen, predominantly for the Lyric Musical Society and, back in the 1990s, I was a dancer at Amadeus — one of the largest nightclubs in Scotland at the time.

What’s your proudest career moment?

I always loved the feeling of making a difference and while I worked for an oil and gas company in its recruitment team, I was part of an initiative to redeploy former military personnel into the organisation.

They had so many transferrable skills and it was an amazing project to be part of. It was so successful that it’s still a key part of that organisation’s recruitment strategy to this day.

The beauty of working in recruitment is the sheer volume of people from every walk of life you work with, and this transfers directly to the property sector. I’ve loved working in so many different estate agency roles supported by talented colleagues and helped sell so many different styles of property across the north east – it’s such a dynamic job.

If you’re looking to sell your home, you can contact the team for an informal chat. And here are all the details about our Bridge of Don offer.
