A threshold change, announced in July 2020, meant buyers in Scotland have been able to save up to £2,100 in Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT). Since then, rather than kicking in on purchases over £145,000, people only pay this tax when they buy a home for £250,001 or more. But — and here's the catch — this temporary change to the nil-rate band ends on 31 March.
For this round-up, we've pulled together a selection of homes that are, based on their asking prices, exempt from LBTT until the end of March, 2021.
After then, a 2% rate will be payable on purchases between £145,001 and £250,000 with higher rates for proportions of the property price above that. For first-time buyers, the tax kicks in at purchases of £175,001.
