Ledingham Chalmers’ Aberdeen data protection café: surviving the GDPR - Friday 3 November 2017

The extent to which new Europe-wide regulations will radically alter all businesses’ approach to data protection will be the focus of a free event in the north east next week.

The Scottish full-service law firm has organised the session to give local organisations the chance to find out more about what will change when the GDPR comes into force next May.

Other topics for discussion include how data protection works in practice; the main business risks; as well as advice on how to prepare.

Inverness-based partner Kirk Tudhope, who leads the firm’s employment law team, said: “From large amounts of sensitive data held on computers, memory sticks, in the cloud, or even on paper, we all hold information about our employees, clients, suppliers and contacts.

“The current duties to protect these details already place significant obligations on us all, but the new GDPR regime will add to the demands we have to meet in handling this data. It also increases the penalties if we are in breach.

“In short, failure to comply presents an unacceptable risk for us all, and our businesses.”
