With offices in Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Stirling, the Scottish full-service law firm has organised the free events to discuss the implications of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), set to come into force next May.
These sessions give local businesses the chance to find out more about what will change next year; how data protection works in practice; the main business risks; as well as advice on how to prepare.
Inverness-based partner Kirk Tudhope, who leads the firm’s employment law team, said: “Data protection affects all our businesses and the new GDPR regime will increase the requirements we face, and the penalties if we are in breach.
“In fact, the consequences for breach are more punitive than the current regime, including fines of up to €20million, or 4% of global turnover — whatever is higher.
“This is not just an HR issue, albeit we all hold significant and sensitive information about our employees, it also impacts how we hold all personal details, including that which relates to clients, suppliers and contacts.”
