Meet family law associate — Rosie Allan

She might have represented her country at junior and senior squash competitions, but focusing on her legal career has been just as fulfilling for senior solicitor Rosie Allan.

We had a quick word with the University of Aberdeen graduate to find out more about what motivates her at work, and what she does when she's not helping our clients.

What's been your proudest career moment?

Securing, through an emergency court action and subsequent hearing, the return of a child who had been wrongfully taken out of Scotland.

Clients come to us during what can often be a difficult time in their lives and doing our job you can really feel like you are making a positive difference guiding them through that.

What do you do when you're not working?

I enjoy travelling to new places in our campervan at weekends and during the holidays. Recent favourites have been Loch Morlich, Shegra and York. I spent part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend at Linn of Dee: a new favourite!

I'm also a trained nail technician. I find this is a great creative outlet as well as a really good way to meet people.

What would people be surprised to hear about you?

I played squash at international level between the ages of nine and 20 in junior and senior competitions. I held a ranking of number one in Scotland and highest European ranking of five.

I competed for Scotland in the European Team Championships as a junior and the Women's World Team Squash Championships at senior level before retiring to focus on my legal career.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room.
